HOUSE RULES & HOW WE ROLL

LOVE WASH is a nice place - a nice, communal place - which means that in agreeing to use it for ourselves, we also agree to ensure our actions consider the comfort & hygiene of those around us, and those coming after us.

  • RESPECT.

We welcome people of all ages, persuasions, cultures, and creeds. LOVE WASH is a safe and welcoming space for everyone.

In the spirit of reconciliation LOVE WASH would like to acknowledge the Gweagal, Bidjigal and Gadigal Clans which are the traditional custodians of the land on which we operate. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and future and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land

  • LOVE WASH. LIVE FREE.

Another way of saying this is…be thoughtful and be kind.

Consider the impacts of your actions and treat our space, our facilities, our staff, other people, and their washing with the respect and courtesy that we all deserve.

If you need to move another person’s washing so you can use a particular machine, please treat it respectfully by putting it in a blue bucket to keep it clean.

Just generally, choose good over evil – life is SO much more rewarding when you do. Love doing your Wash and Live Free knowing you have Washed and Lived Well. Zen Master out.

  • YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN WASHING.

    Just as we are all responsible for our actions, our speech and our hairstyles so too are we responsible for our washing. Please don’t leave it sitting in our machines all day – this prevents other people from having the pleasure of using them. Here’s what will happen if you do;

If you leave your washing in our machines overnight, we will put it out for your collection the next day in one of our blue buckets. No problemo – we get that s#!@ happens, we’re nice that way. If you don’t collect it the next day or contact us, we will store it in our back of house area. As we have extremely limited space, if you haven’t made any effort to contact us and collect your stuff within three days of leaving it then we will donate it to charity.

  • YOU SPILL IT, YOU WIPE IT.

Yeah, we’re looking at you. The goof who leaves their rubbish lying around or spills coffee/ noodles/ laundry powder / whatever then leaves it there for someone else to clean up. Not cool people. You spill it, you wipe it.

Be a grownup, grab a complimentary wipe, use your napkins and own your own mess. We have bins – use them.

This principle also applies to the washers & dryers - check them over for your runaway socks and while you’re at it, give them a quick wipe down after use for the next person. A little extra good karma hurt no one ever. Don’t be gross - be nice. It’s so easy to do and it makes you feel so much better :)

  • RELAX…BUT KEEP YOUR FEET OFF THE FURNITURE.

We get it, it’s been a long day, the seats are comfy, and you need to stretch out. We fully support that impulse, or we wouldn’t have designed our store to be so luscious.

However! Putting your shoes on the seats does leave dirt and marks on the upholstery, mussing it up for the next person. So, by all means stretch out and relax but please put a towel down or better yet keep those kicks on the floor!

Wiping down before/ after use is a nice, thoughtful touch - highly recommended.

  • DON’T STEAL THE BUCKETS…C’MON!

Do you know what doesn’t grow on trees? Blue Flexi-Tubs.

We have a limited number of them at the store, put there so everyone can use them to move their laundry around with ease while using our facilities. Nice gesture, right?

Please help us continue to offer this service by keeping the tubs in the store where they belong.

Every stolen bucket chips away at our faith in humanity, and in these turbulent times we need all the faith we can get.

  • We have three washer sizes and two dryer sizes. Let’s break it down!

M WASHER (numbered 1-4 and 8-10 in store)

These washers can take up to 10kg of dry laundry, or what you could fit into approximately two standard domestic loads

L WASHER (numbered 5 and 7 in store)

These washers can take up to 14kg of dry laundry, or what you could fit into approximately three standard domestic loads

XL WASHER (numbered 6 in store)

This washer can take up to 27kg of dry laundry, or what you could fit into approximately six standard domestic loads

L DRYER (numbered 12-23 in store)

These dryers are designed to fit washing loads from our M and L sized washers. Drying time will depend on the make-up and overall volumetric size of your washing load. If you have a lot of heavy items like towels, it’s best to take a longer cycle. Also, the dryers operate at maximum efficiency when half-full so please keep that in mind.

XL DRYER (numbered 11 in store)

This dryer is designed to fit a washing load from our XL sized washer, or multiple loads from our L and M washers. Drying time will depend on the make-up and overall volumetric size of your washing load. If you have a lot of heavy items like towels, it’s best to take a longer cycle. Also, the dryers operate at maximum efficiency when half-full so please keep that in mind.

  • There is no need as a perfectly measured dose of incredibly effective biodegradable, hypoallergenic and low-foam detergent is automatically injected into every wash – for free. It’s great and gives your linen a subtle natural eucalyptus smell. When it comes to clothes detergent, more is definitely less - trust us on this one.

Before you start huffing about this infringement of your civil liberties, technically, you CAN add your own detergent and softener by putting it on top of your clothes before you close the door and start your cycle. But we REALLY don’t recommend it, and this is why…overloading a wash with too much detergent means that too many suds are created, which can’t be rinsed out leaving you with laundry that isn’t quite clean and also coated in chemical residue - NO MATTER HOW ‘FRESH’ IT SMELLS! That super-strong fragrance you may be used to at home isn’t an indicator of cleanliness OR softness – it’s just hard-core chemical perfume and has nothing to do with the degree of cleanliness of your laundry.

The one and only thing that is a LOVE WASH approved additive to your wash is an oxy-brightener (oxygen bleach) designed to be sprinkled on top of your dry laundry before the wash cycle actually starts. Oxy-brighteners are color-safe bleach alternatives which help with stain removal and brightening your whites. Oxy-brighteners are also low foaming by nature, usually made from eco-friendly sodium percarbonate and they rinse out well. Oxy-brighteners are also gentle on your clothes.

  • Nope, not lying – promise!

If you’re looking at your wash thinking “I can’t see any/many suds, these people are having me on, there CAN’T be enough detergent in there!” please, take a breath and read on.

Behind the scenes we have pumps that are calibrated to automatically dispense the exact amount of detergent that is right for your machine size. It’s a low-foam detergent by design so ipso facto it’s not meant to show lots of suds. The pumps are checked every day first thing in the morning, and if one is out of order, we shut that washer down until we can get that particular pump fixed.

If the machine is not loaded to full capacity, you might see a few more bubbles in there than you’ve been used to previously – that just means there’s not enough clothes in there to soak up all the detergent.

Additionally, some heavier/ thicker types of laundry soak up the detergent more than lighter weight types and will show differing degrees of suds.

So, if you see more or less bubbles from load to load DON’T PANIC!

  • Words to live by.

We know, we know – it’s so tempting to stuff that dryer to the brim to get your money’s worth. But you know what? You’re not doing yourself, your wallet, or your clothes any favours as they won’t dry properly and most likely you’ll have to run another cycle to get your clothes properly dry.

Dryers are designed to operate most effectively half-full. Why? So that hot air can freely circulate between the clothes and dry them faster. That hot air and half-full concept is what puts the ‘tumble’ in ‘tumble-dry’. And faster drying times mean less wear and tear on your clothes as well as lower cost per cycle.

And here’s a pro-tip – towels and blankets take longer to dry than lighter items like t-shirts, sheets, etc. So, if you’re having a towel-dominant kind of a wash, up your minutes when choosing your dry cycle. And if you have a mixed load, try separating the heavier items from the lighter ones into two separate dryers and choose timings appropriate to each load.
