How to Wash Gym Clothes and Remove Sweat Odor
Introduction
That funky smell that doesn’t leave your gym clothes? It’s not your imagination. Activewear is notoriously difficult to clean properly.
Why Gym Clothes Smell Different
- Synthetic fabrics trap odor – Polyester and nylon hold bacteria
- Moisture-wicking = bacteria-loving
- Body oils accumulate
- Fabric softener makes it worse
The Right Way to Wash Gym Clothes
- Don’t let them sit – Wash within 24 hours
- Turn inside out – Most bacteria is inside
- Use cold water
- Use less detergent
- Add white vinegar – 1/2 cup in rinse cycle
- Skip fabric softener – Always!
- Air dry when possible
Pre-Treatment for Extra Smelly Items
- Fill sink with cold water
- Add 1 cup white vinegar
- Soak for 30 minutes
- Drain and wash as normal
