Why linen is the biggest turnaround job

For most short-stay hosts, the slowest part of a changeover is not cleaning the room. It is the sheets, doona cover, pillowcases and towels. Every booking needs a full clean set, and the used set has to be washed and dried before the next one.

Three ways hosts handle it

• Wash at home. Cheap, but a home machine struggles with king-size doona covers and several sets of towels, and drying takes hours.
• Linen service. Convenient, but you pay per item and wait for delivery.
• Self-service laundromat. Large commercial washers and dryers, wash and dry in one visit, and no contract.

A 27kg washer takes several sets of sheets and doona covers in one load, which is usually the most efficient choice for a changeover.

A simple same-day changeover routine

1. Strip the bed and bag used linen as soon as guests check out.
2. Drop it at the laundromat and start a large wash while you clean the property.
3. Move it to the dryers and fold while still warm.
4. Keep a spare set per bed so a late checkout never delays the next guest.
