Are There Laundromats Designed for Specific Clothing Types?
Matching Your Clothing Types to the Right Laundromat Setup
Not all laundry is equal. The wash that’s perfect for work shirts might ruin your running gear; the cycle that gets towels clean would destroy silk lingerie. Understanding how to match different clothing types to the right machine settings and products at Love Wash gets you the best possible results from every visit.
Everyday Cotton and Mixed Fabrics
The most common load type — t-shirts, jeans, underwear, casual clothing — works best with a standard cycle at cold or warm temperature. Cold for lightly soiled items, warm for more heavily worn or slightly stained items. A standard liquid detergent works perfectly. These items can go in the dryer on medium heat without concern.
Activewear and Sports Clothing
Sports gear — polyester, spandex, technical fabrics — benefits from a specific approach. Use cold water (heat degrades elastic and technical properties), gentle or sports-specific cycle, and a detergent designed for synthetics or activewear. Avoid fabric softener — it coats the fibres and reduces moisture-wicking performance. Dryer use should be low heat or air dry to preserve fabric function.
Delicates and Lingerie
Silk, lace, fine knitwear, and lingerie: use a mesh bag, delicate cycle, cold water, and a gentle or delicate-specific detergent. Skip the dryer entirely — air dry flat at home to preserve shape and avoid shrinkage.
Workwear and Business Shirts
Business shirts and professional wear benefit from a gentle warm wash with a quality detergent. Removing from the dryer while still slightly damp and hanging immediately significantly reduces ironing. Overdrying creates the wrinkles that need ironing out.
Towels and Household Linens
Towels and bed linen can withstand hot washes and benefit from them — high temperatures sanitise and refresh fabric that sees frequent skin contact. High-heat drying is also fine for towels and gives them that fluffy, freshly dried feel. Cotton sheets can be tumble dried on medium heat.
Heavy Winter Clothing
Jackets, coats, hoodies, and heavy knitwear should be washed on a gentle to medium cycle with appropriate temperature (check care labels). For down-filled items, use a gentle cycle and dry on low heat with tennis balls to redistribute fill. Confirm the item is completely dry before removing — damp down fill develops mould quickly.
